What is gloss paint? Gloss paint is a hard-wearing paint finish, making it perfect for doors, bannisters, skirting boards & other trim around the house. It is a high sheen finish, which means it reflects a large amount of light, while matt paint is a low sheen finish, which creates a 'flat' finish.

What Is Gloss Paint?
Paint comes in a range of finishes that vary in terms of level of sheen. These finishes include, matt, eggshell, satin and gloss, with matt having the lowest level of sheen, and gloss having the most amount of sheen. The more sheen a paint finish has, the more light it reflects. Another distinguishing factor between paint finishes and their level of sheen is the durability sheen provides. The more sheen a paint finish has, the more durability it has.
Gloss paint is high-sheen finish, which is why it is most commonly used on interior and exterior wood and metal, such as skirting boards, pipes, doors and furniture. While gloss is gone out of fashion in recent years, it can create a beautiful finish, especially when used in black and other modern tones.
How Many Coats of Gloss Paint Is Required?
Like the majority of paints, gloss paint usually requires two-coats and a primer, if the surface that is being treated is bare. The first coat is called an undercoat, with the gloss paint then used on the top of this to create the finish.
Is Gloss Paint Washable?
Gloss paint as a high-sheen emulsion is washable yes. Not only is it washable but it offer excellent durability from scuffs and scratches due to it's sheen.
Is Gloss Paint Water-Based or Oil-Based?
Gloss paint comes in both water-based and oil-based forms, which gives you the flexibility to use the emulsion that you prefer. It is important to note that water-based and oil-based paints vary in terms of there pro's and con's, with water-based gloss paints drying much quicker and being non-yellowing, while oil-based paints flor better on the brush and are generally more durable.

Yes, high gloss paint is water resistant to any extent, which is why it can be used on both interior and exterior wood and metal.
