Anti Mould Paint
Anti mould paint is paint that is specially designed to prevent the formation mould on interior walls & ceilings. They achieve this by absorbing heat instead of allowing this heat to escape through the external wall of a property. By retaining heat, this heat then prevents the formation of condensation on the walls, keeping them warm & dry.
Anti mould paints such as Suretherm are white, water-based interior emulsions that can be applied to already painted walls & ceilings and then overcoated using any emulsion paint. Simply applying two coats of the anti mould paint before you decorate will give you the protection you need against mould growth, leaving you worry free. These paints are extremely effective if you are suffering from mould caused by internal sources of moisture, such as condensation. This is often the case in high humidity rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens. What Is Anti Mould Paint?
Anti mould paint is paint that is designed to prevent mould growth on interior walls & ceilings. They achieve this by retaining heat, which in turn allows them to reduce the chance of condensation forming. By preventing condensation, the moisture that mould requires in order to thrive are preventing, inhibiting its ability to grow.
Suretherm Anti Condensation Paint for example contains glass microspheres that become charged like a battery. These glass microspheres retain heat over twice as long as standard emulsion, allowing it to keep the painted surface warmer, thus preventing the formation of condensation and mould.
In a recent case study, Suretherm was used to prevent the growth of mould on a property owned by New Charter Housing Association that suffering from cold spots. Suretherm was applied on 1st February and was inspected 10 weeks later, with the reduction in mould being hugely significant.
Where Should I Use Anti Mould Paint?
Anti mould paint is recommended for a number of uses:
- On particularly cold interior walls & ceilings, especially those that are missing insulation
- In high humidity rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms
- In industrial environments
- On prefabricated structures
- In areas where mould grows
How To Apply Anti Mould Paint
You must ensure that the surface is clean & free from mould before applying any paint. A suitable mould cleaning solution would be Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover. Once the surface is clean & free from mould, lightly abrade any glossy surfaces and remove any dust. We would recommend applying Suretherm Anti Condensation Paint, which is as good as it gets when it comes to mould prevention. For best results use a medium pile roller to apply two coats of Suretherm at approximately 8-10m2 per litre, allowing 4 hours between coats. Once completely dry and two coats have been applied, you can wallpaper over the surface or apply a coloured emulsion paint of your choice.
