What Is A Brickwork Waterproofer?
Brickwork waterproofers are waterproof coatings that are designed for exterior walls that help to prevent damp, damage & decay by preventing water ingress. They come in various forms that include both waterproof masonry paint and masonry cream.
Unfortunately, there is a large amount of confusion around waterproofing treatments in the UK, due to what are known as 'sealers'. the treatments often labelled as 'sealers' are not breathable. When a non-breathable brick sealer is applied to exterior walls, they successfully waterproof the surface but also prevent moisture from escaping the brick. This leads to significant damage and in a short period of time will lead to the coating eventually failing, when the pressure from the build-up of moisture becomes to much.
What Brickwork Waterproofers Are Available?

This can be applied straight onto previously painted brickwork, or applied to bare brickwork once Emperor Exterior Primer is applied.
How To Apply Brickwork Waterproofer Products
Masonry cream it is relatively simple to apply to your exterior brickwork. It is crucial to ensure the surface is completely clean before applying. Emperor Masonry Creme is designed for bare brickwork that has not been previously painted, so if there is any paint on the surface, remove this. You can then apply one-coat of masonry cream to the surface at a coverage of 3-5m2 per litre. The product will absorb into the wall over the course of a couple of hours, leaving you with an invisible waterproof barrier on your exterior brickwork.
Emperor Masonry Paint is applied like any other masonry paint, with two coats applied. If you are painting bare brickwork, ensure you apple one coat of Emperor Exterior Primer first, as this will provide added adhesion to the brickwork. The coverage of the paint is 5-6m2 per litre, with a recoat time of 8 hours.
