What Is Masonry Paint?
Masonry paint is an exterior paint that is designed to resist the weathering that exterior surfaces experience, ensuring that exterior stone & brickwork remains looking attractive. Masonry paint comes in a range of forms, such as silicone masonry paint, acrylic masonry paint & pliolite. Typically, conventional masonry paints are acrylic-based and are designed to remain adhered for between 3-10 years. Silicone masonry paints are more advanced formulations that are ideal if you want a tough, long-lasting finish of 25+ years, while pliolite is an oil-based formulation which is typically reserved for applying in colder conditions.
The masonry paint that is best for you depends on a number of things that usually include, durability, compatibility & colour. The durability of a masonry paint is usually dictated by its ability to withstand weathering and its breathability. Despite what many masonry paint manufacturers say, not all masonry paints are waterproof. They are often referred to as stormproof or weatherproof, meaning they have some resistance to moisture, but not complete resistance. The only masonry paints that are completely waterproof are water repellent paints such as Emperor Masonry Paint. When a coating isn't breathable, any moisture that is trapped underneath the paint film cannot escape, causing the paint to fail. It is important to check that a masonry paint is breathable if you want it to perform long-term.
Lastly, the colour is a big factor in which paint to opt for. A number of masonry paint brands offer pink masonry paint as a standard colour, while others can be custom mixed thanks to our paint mixing service. These paints that are available to be mixed in any colour are labelled 'tinted colours' and have a colour wheel in their product image. They can be mixed in almost any RAL or British Standard colour, which means you can find the perfect shade for you, be it pink or any other shade. It is important to note that while Armstead Masonry Paint for example can be mixed in almost any colour, Emperor Masonry Paint can also be mixed in light or pastel shades due to the colourants diluting the quality of the paint.
