Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque Tinted Colour

Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque is a high performance solvent-based exterior coating that creates a water-repellent surface on exterior timber. It is a solid colour opaque woodstain that is suitable for all softwoods and hardwoods.

The unique ultimate wood protection technology from Dulux Trade protects exterior joinery and timber from weathering for up to 10 years, as well as offering a superb coverage of up to 20m² per litre. It can be mixed in any RAL, British Standard or NCS colour, plus equivalent shades of all major manufacturers colours.

Application

Ensure that you prepare the surface properly before applying the woodstain. If the wood has been previously painted, ensure you remove any flaking or peeling paint before you do anything. Once this is done, you can clean the surface down to remove any surface dirt or grime. It is then recommended to sand down the timber in the direction of the grain using a sandpaper and clean down using a tack cloth to remove any dust created by the sanding. Fill any holes or cracks in the wood using a suitable wood filler, allowing to completely dry before sanding down to a smooth finish.

As a solvent-based product, Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque has a drying time of 4-6 hours and is recoatable in 16 hours. It is crucial that you leave yourself enough time to complete the project in dry conditions.

Applying a primer is recommended if you are applying it to a bare or damaged timber surface. As a high-quality woodstain, Ultimate Opaque should only require 2-3 coats to create a solid colour finish. Dulux recommend the Dulux Trade Weathershield Preservative Primer Clear as a basecoat for Ultimate Opaque, applied in two-coats.

The product should not be thinned down and should not be applied in temperatures below 5ºC.
